Frequently Asked Questions
about submitting in French or Spanish
Yes, as long as your sharing is accompained by an English translation.
To avoid separating your French/Spanish sharing from its English translation, please submit your sharing and translation together in one single document.
Yes, your sharing will be considered for any and all of our publications. All submissions become the property of Al‑Anon Family Group Headquarters, Inc., and may be used in whole or in part to develop Al‑Anon/Alateen printed or electronic material.
At this time, the World Service Office does not have the resources to translate member submissions. However, check with your District and/or Area Information Services office to see if they offer translation or can connect you with a bilingual member who might be able to help.
Most sharings are 300 to 400 words long but can range from a sentence or two to a 1,200‑word personal recovery story. Sharings on one of the Twelve Steps, Traditions, or Concepts of Service should be between 200 and 400 words long.
Any Al‑Anon‑related topic is welcome, for example: recovery concepts such as detachment with love or keeping the focus on myself; how an Al‑Anon slogan such as “One Day at a Time” or “Keep It Simple” helps me; having or being a Sponsor; how service contributes to my recovery; a favorite book of Conference Approved Literature; how I’ve applied one of our Three Legacies to my personal life; etc.
You don’t have to be a professional writer! Just share from your heart. Sharings should be about and from the Al‑Anon perspective, keeping the focus on your experience using “I” or “me” statements. Avoid teaching or giving advice, outside issues, religious philosophies, and treatment‑center or therapeutic language. Observe Al‑Anon’s Twelve Traditions when sharing. World Service Office Staff will edit the English translation of your sharing for spelling, punctuation, grammar, clarity, and length.
Sharings are reviewed by the Forum Editorial Advisory Committee, which makes recommendations for publication. If your sharing is published, you will receive a complimentary copy of the issue in which it appears. All sharings submitted become the property of Al‑Anon Family Group Headquarters, Inc., and may be used in whole or in part to develop Al‑Anon/Alateen printed or electronic material.
